RECAP OF NEW ENGLAND RAILS AND SAILS TRIP – Sept 25 to Oct. 3, 2021

Our group of 24 arrived in Boston with no flight delays or problems.  Enjoyed a nice welcome dinner at the lovely Boston Park Plaza Hotel.  Enjoyed an informative tour of Boston and then proceeded to Kennebunkport  and Portland ,Maine  During this trip we enjoyed a ride on a Narrow Gauge train and a Casco Bay Cruise along Maine’s rocky shoreline and wooded islands.  Moving along to New Hampshire’s White Mountains, we boarded another railroad called the Conway Scenic Railroad moving through the Washington Valley countryside.  Proceeding on to Vermont where we visited Quechee Gorge, the town of Woodstock and the Historic Site of Calvin Coolidge – which was a pleasant and informative visit.  Another attraction that was thoroughly enjoyed by all was the Mystic Seaport (a recreation of a 19th century seafaring village) where we boarded a whaling ship and other vessels while watching several demonstrations.  This was a truly enjoyable experience.

Arriving again in New Hampshire, we boarded another train – the Essex Steam Train which passed through some of the most beautiful vistas and nostalgic towns in New England.  After which we boarded the Riverboat “Becky Thatcher” for a trip up the Connecticut River.

We spent two nights at the Mohegan Sun Casino Hotel which rivals any place in Las Vegas.  The hotel was gigantic and decorated with loads of glitz.  After our casino visit, we went on another tour and visited Plymouth Rock and boarded a whale watching boat in Cape Cod Bay where we followed around two whales and watched as they dove and flipped their tails.  This was our last tour of the trip.

After arriving back in the Boston area, we enjoyed a farewell dinner at the beautiful Marriott in Quincy Massachusetts.   Our trip covered all of the New England states and was enjoyed by all.
